Cognitive scientist and mathematician: adaptive resonance theory
Who they are, and what we talked about
Stephen Grossberg is Professor Emeritus of mathematics and statistics, psychological and brain sciences, and biomedical engineering at Boston University, and directs its Center for Adaptive Systems. His adaptive resonance theory is a mathematical account of how brains learn, pay attention and become conscious of things.
He has been a guest twice, in 2023: once on how each brain makes a mind, and once on whether adaptive resonance theory offers a unified theory of consciousness and a route to the hard problem.
