General and family medicine in Cape Town
Acute illness and the ongoing management of chronic conditions, with the same comprehensive approach as the rest of the practice. I practise general medicine with a special interest in metabolic health and preventive medicine.
Who this is for.
- People with an acute illness or a new symptom that needs assessing.
- People living with a long-term condition, such as diabetes, high blood pressure or asthma, who need continuing care.
- People who want one doctor who knows their history and follows it over time.
- Families who would like to know whether Dr Naidu can see a particular family member, which the practice can confirm.
Concerns people bring.
- A new symptom, such as a cough, pain, rash or fever, that needs assessing.
- Review of a long-term condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure or asthma.
- A review of your medicines, including how they fit together.
- Understanding results from tests or a hospital visit.
- A general check-up or a second opinion on something you have been told.
- Wanting one doctor who knows your history over time.
How the work is done.
Whether the visit is for something new or something long-standing, the approach is the same.
-
A full history
What is happening now, and the history around it. The cause is often found in the parts of the story that are easy to skip.
-
Assessment and results
An examination and any tests that are appropriate, read as part of your overall health rather than on their own.
-
A plan reviewed over time
A clear plan for what happens next, with follow-up for conditions that need it. Each visit builds on the last.
Your first visit.
The first visit begins with what brought you in and the history around it. You are examined where that is appropriate, and any tests are chosen because there is a reason for them.
You leave with a clear plan for what happens next, including follow-up for conditions that need it. Please bring a list of your medicines and any recent results.
What this is not.
- Not an emergency service. For chest pain, severe breathlessness, signs of a stroke, heavy bleeding or loss of consciousness, call 10177 or 112.
- Not an online consultation service. This website does not offer remote consultations, prescriptions or sick notes.
- Not the only care you may need. If your concern needs another doctor, referral is discussed with you.
When to go to an emergency room.
Chest pain, severe difficulty breathing, signs of a stroke, heavy bleeding or loss of consciousness need emergency care. Call 10177 or 112, or go to your nearest emergency room, rather than waiting for an appointment.
Common questions.
What kinds of problems can I come about?
Common acute illnesses and symptoms, and the ongoing care of long-term conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and asthma. If you are unsure whether your concern is suitable, the practice can advise.
Is this different from an ordinary GP visit?
It is general practice, with the addition of the practice's comprehensive approach: a full history, proper data and a plan that is reviewed over time.
Can I see Dr Naidu for a family member?
Please contact the practice, which can confirm whether Dr Naidu can see a particular family member.
What if it is urgent?
For a medical emergency, call 10177 or 112 or go to your nearest emergency room. For an urgent but non-emergency problem, contact the practice directly.
Can I bring results from another doctor or hospital?
Yes. Bring whatever you have, including reports, scans and a list of your medicines, and they will be read with you.
What should I bring to the first visit?
Your medicine list, any recent results, and a short note of your symptoms and when they started. If you are not sure what is relevant, bring what you have.
Can you help with a chronic condition I already have?
Yes. Continuing care for long-term conditions is part of general medicine, with follow-up agreed with you.
