Philippines, 2018.
Survivor South Africa: Philippines was the sixth South African season. Eighteen castaways were filmed on the island of Palawan in the Philippines in early 2018, and the season aired weekly on M-Net from May to a live finale in August. It was the first South African season to run for the full 39 days of the American series.
Dr Naidu was 24, the second youngest of the 18 castaways, and from Durban. He played with the Mindanao tribe for the whole of his time in the game and was voted out on Day 18, before the merge, the fifth person to leave. The season was won by Tom Swartz.
Return of the Outcasts, 2022.
Four years later he was invited back for Survivor South Africa: Return of the Outcasts, which aired on M-Net from July to August 2022 and was filmed on the Sunshine Coast in the Eastern Cape. By then he was 28, the youngest castaway of the season, and living in Cape Town.
He played with the Yontau tribe. After the first Tribal Council he won the Outpost Idol in a rock draw, and he later found Yontau’s hidden immunity idol. He was voted out on Day 9 at a Tribal Council while still holding that idol, which he never had the chance to play. The season was won by Dino Paulo.
A doctor playing a social-science experiment.
Dr Naidu is drawn to Survivor as a social-science laboratory. The biopsychosocial model holds that health and behaviour emerge from biology, psychology and social context together, and on the island all three are tested at once: hunger and fatigue in the body, stress and self-belief in the mind, alliances and trust in the tribe.
That lens made him a strategic player. It is also the same one he brings to medicine and to Mind-Body Solution: people are never only a body, only a mind or only a social role.

Survivor is a long experiment in decision-making under pressure: limited information, hunger, fatigue, shifting alliances and consequences that arrive in front of everyone.
