Metabolic health and preventive medicine in Cape Town
I practise general medicine with a special interest in metabolic health and preventive medicine at practices in Cape Town, combining evidence-based medicine with patient-centred, values-based care. The work only makes sense over years, so the practice is built around depth rather than volume.
The goal is not simply more years.
Longevity is about the years worth living, and having something worth living them for.
Lifespan
How long you live.
Healthspan
How long you live well.
Meaningspan
How long you live well with purpose.
Most medicine waits for the decline and then manages it. The aim here is to help delay that decline and shorten it, so that any years gained are years you would actually want.
Metabolic health describes how well the body manages and uses energy. Blood sugar, blood fats, blood pressure and body composition are some of the markers commonly used to understand it, and they are assessed together here rather than one result at a time.
- Typical trajectory
- With proactive care
For people who want to understand their health.
- People who want to understand their health rather than just manage it.
- People who would rather prevent disease than react to it, and want risk identified early.
- People looking for continuity over years, not a single appointment.
- People who want nutrition, movement, sleep, stress and emotional wellbeing considered as one plan.
Depth rather than volume.
Each stage builds on the last, so the care is continuous rather than a series of separate appointments.
-
A full history
Not only the presenting problem. The parts most appointments never get to, because the answer is usually somewhere in there.
-
Proper baseline data
Metabolic markers, body composition and risk assessed together rather than one result at a time, so we know where you actually stand.
-
A plan reviewed over time
The objective is continuity. The plan changes as the data does, so each visit builds on the last rather than starting again.

Before you book.
What is metabolic health and preventive medicine?
It is evidence-based medicine combined with patient-centred, values-based care, with the aim of extending healthspan rather than lifespan alone. Metabolic health describes how well the body manages and uses energy, and preventive medicine means identifying risk early rather than reacting to disease.
Is this a quick fix?
No. The work only makes sense over years, so the practice is built around depth rather than volume. The plan changes as the data does, so each visit builds on the last rather than starting again.
What does the first consultation involve?
The approach follows three stages: a full history, not only the presenting problem; baseline data, with metabolic markers, body composition and risk assessed together; and a plan that is reviewed over time.
How these stages are spread across visits can be confirmed with the practice when you book.
Is this different from general practice?
General and family medicine is part of the practice: acute illness and chronic disease management, with the same comprehensive approach. Dr Naidu holds a Postgraduate Diploma in General Practice.
