Computer scientist: evolutionary robotics, embodiment and computer-designed organisms
Who they are, and what we talked about
Josh Bongard is a professor of computer science at the University of Vermont and directs its Morphology, Evolution and Cognition Laboratory. His work covers soft and evolved robots and computer-designed organisms, and it asks how a body shapes the kind of mind it can have.
He has been a guest twice: in 2025 on biological robots and how artificial intelligence is reshaping life and matter, and in 2026, with Richard Watson, on why parts come together to form larger wholes in cells, minds and machines.
