Susan Blackmore
Psychologist and writer: memes, consciousness and meditation
Who they are, and what we talked about
Susan Blackmore is a writer, lecturer and broadcaster, and Visiting Professor at the University of Plymouth. She trained in psychology and physiology and has written about memes, evolution, consciousness and meditation across some fifteen books.
She has been a guest twice. In 2023 they discussed whether religions evolved to exploit us, and the difference between illusionism and what she calls delusionism. In 2025 she set out a new approach to consciousness built on what she describes as a panpsychism of models.
